FAQ: UNOA QULUTS

The U-Noa Quluts (Lusis and Sist) by Alchemic
laboratory
are 43cm/16” tall ball jointed Japanese dolls, designed by Gentaro Araki (side
note, he also created Volks' U-Noss).
Basically, they are in scale with the Volk’s MSD dolls, only they are a
lot more thinner in build and a little more mature depending on which torso you
buy. Their joints, however
“snap” in place, and have a strong, excellent quality molding to hold
positions far better than the Volks counterparts. What’s
the differences: Lusis verses sist Grace (on “Etheral Angels”)
explained this best as: “Lusis has the parted lips and
you have an extra piece to put in for her teeth. Yes, she's very young but she
already wears false teeth! Lusis also has kind of droopy eyes. Sist has the more
serious look and her lips are closed.” What's the Difference between version 1.0 and version 1.5 bodies The differences between 1.0 and 1.5 are the same between 1.0 and the boys: double elbow joint, slightly different resin color (more pink) and in composition, enhanced torso joint, better tabs under the bottom/back thigh area to help in sitting, ridges added to the underside of the headpiece for better poseability, and different material used in the foot and hand s-hooks. Cool features unique to the Unoa:
Some of the optional parts are:
They usually
come unpainted and unassembled in kits, but you can get them assembled and
painted by Gentaro Araki off of yahoo Japan on occasion.
Alchemic labo does announce, on occasion,
preorders, but usually, you need to buy these dolls through a buying service
like http://www.crescent-shop.com/.
You can watch the website for releases on the website http://www.alchemiclabo.com/,
but it’s a little difficult to do that…preorders only happen a few times a
year and its VERY limited…. PLUS it takes awhile to get the dolls, IF you get
the doll at all. The JOYS of
collecting these limited dolls, huh? ;) Yahoo Japan is your main place to pick up
these dolls and their parts/accessories. Here
is a translation website that will translate Japanese sites to English: http://homepage1.nifty.com/NewSphere/trans.html. In order to buy through Yahoo Japan, you
need to buy through a buying service. They
all charge fees and work differently…please read their rules carefully before
you begin to buy!!! Read everything
CAREFULLY! Here are the Bidding/Buying services: Celga.com,
Rinkya.com, Crescent
Trading, OK!shon
and Anime
Chaos. On occasion these dolls come up on Ebay www.ebay.com as well. Prices varied but here was a sample:
As stated above, the dolls come completely unpainted and unassembled. Here is a great tutorial by Bev on body blushing here (Dollicieux online magazine has tons of great articles on customizing dolls). Here is one on painting doll's nails and here is a basic restringing tutorial of your ball jointed doll on You Tube. If you want to wire and string your doll, you COULD refer to this stringing guide which should at least help you a bit if you don't have the instruction book with the doll anymore. Volks USA has stringing tools that I would HIGHLY recommend to use, which makes pulling the string through the legs and arms VERY easy. There are a number of great sites that go into detail on how to remove seam lines and body sanding. Usually you can either just sand using sand paper, carefully with a dremmel or an x-actor knife. Volks also sells a ceramic knife to remove the seams. Whatever you end up using, be careful not to gouge your doll! Cleaning up the edges with sandpaper afterwards for a smooth finish does the trick. Check out DOA for other Tutorials and help on specifics. Wig size is 6/7.
MSD wigs are a bit big on the UNOA, but the SDC (SD Cute) fit her with a
bit of room and don't look that bad on her.

The Unoa at the temple, just above the eye mechanism area, where the faceplate and the dollhouse meet, there are openings for optional cat ears or devil horns. These are available through Alchemiclabo and can be found through the same means you would buy the dolls (see above). They usually just slide or snap into the holes. Sometimes, as with any resin pieces, they need to be sanded off to fit in tightly, or on occasion, they are too loose, so you would need to put silly putty or a little bit of fimo around the base on the inside where it isn’t noticeable, in order for it to hold. I’ve seen the cat ears in different colors, but the horns I’ve only seen in flesh and white flesh.

Cheery Doll http://www.cheerydollusa.com/ and Ajumapama http://www.ajumapamausa.com/ specifically design clothes for the Unoa. There are a number of great designers that do lovely work for this doll and are selling in the US on Ebay now. Mio http://www.m2kdolls.com/ is now selling on Ebay, but I believe you can buy through her website. Corolle’s
“Les Cheries” one outfit was tested and it fit perfectly, so I assume the
other will as well (please let me know if they don’t or if they do).
Doll line “Groovy Girls” has these dresses, which end up more as
shirts for the Unoa, which isn’t actually bad for the price (if you don’t
mind throwing out the majority of the outfit that is). For those of you in the UK...here is the link for ajumapama UK: http://www.ajumapama.co.uk. TY, the makers of Beanie Babies has a line of soft dolls called "Beanie Boppers" that are very similar to the "Groovy Girls" (or is that vice-versa). I tried a few of the clothes on. The shirts come up as half shirts, and the pants are a little too small, but I don't see why they can't be adjusted slightly with some Velcro. HEQ for $9.95 for a cut half shirt, I think its worth it. GYMBOREE carries, on occasion, these little soft dolls, again, similar to the Groovy Girls/Beanie Boppers, but they come in seasonally. I haven't personally tried the clothes on, but I did see the doll and it is SO similar to the Groovy Girl, I don't see why it wouldn't fit or fit with some adjustments. I will update this FAQ when it gets closer to Christmas season as that is when they release new versions of these dolls (per the sales girl in the store). Friends2bMade is also a great source of inexpensive clothing for the Unoa. All the tops and shirts fit, but the pants not so much. Mattel has a newer doll called Teen Trends, where the tops will fit on the bigger bust, and the pants ALMOST fit on the Unoa, but they really are a bit too small. For photos, however, you can avoid taking back shots and make due with the pants for the most part. For Undergarments try Doll Secrets her
Kitty Collier lace teddy & Stockings. Kemper
http://www.kemperdolls.com/ actually
has socks/underwear size 0 that fit perfectly.
They have a pair of white underwear, a tank top, socks, and stockings
that fit. They also have tights and
black leggings all at reasonable prices and they all fit great. Also www.dollmasters.com has some dresses that fit, as well as some costumes. Check it out!
Most of the shoes I am suggesting are a little big on the Unoas, but at least they do fit. Angel Region http://angelsupply.com/, Dollheart
www.dollheart.com, Ajumapama http://www.ajumapamausa.com/
(Ajumapama actually makes specific shoes for the Unoa), Minuro World http://minoruworld.net/,
MSD, Sharmin and GOTZ
(girls silver sneakers, pink Mary Janes & red trainers).
2005 Gentaro released two versions of the Unoa Boy, the L-bi and the B-el. They basically mimic the Sist and the Lusis (one has a slightly open mouth while the other has a closed mouth). The Unoa Freak Magazine that came out showed these dolls in great detail and their "optional parts," as Gentaro designed them with two sets of penis that can be removed and changed out, along with the same eye mechanism the Unoa dolls came with. The face plates from the original Unoas do fit on the boys, as do the hands. Mini clothes, as well as the same sized wig and eyes fit on the boys. These dolls first release was through Unoa Freak. As of 2006, there hasn't been a second promised release from Gentaro. Limited dolls have been purchased through Yahoo Japan as well as secondary markets.

UNOA LIGHT
The Lights only have one head for the girls and one for the boys. The standard girl has three pairs of hands and two pairs of feet. The feet
are in two different sizes. The hands are the same size but are in different
poses.
Information in this section was provided by Amanohara: "Her head size is 5.2" but 5-6 stretch wigs fit her well. Her default eyes are 10mm and 8mm. 8mm flatbacks fit her better. She can fit many Tyler Wentworth outfits. From the second dollybird scan, you can
see all the parts that the DollyBird Unoa Second Version comes with.
Included with the dolls is a straight black haired wig for Mocha and a wavy
blonde wig for Cream. Gentaro first released his own face-up versions of
both without the DollyBird version face. (I am not sure, but I think material
was supplied to make a bikini with in this version) The dolls sold in the book for roughly 40,000 yen (printed price in Dollybird). FAQ Created
